This pair of celestial and terrestrial globes was crafted by John & William Cary, a renowned British scientific instrument manufacturer active in the 18th and 19th centuries, celebrated for their precision astronomical instruments, globes, and mathematical tools. As inscribed on the terrestrial globe, it “exhibiting the different tracks of Captain Cook, and the new discoveries made by him and other circumnavigators.” The celestial globe, meanwhile, boasts “on which are correctly laid down upwards of 3,500 Stars selected from the most accurate observations and calculated for the Year 1800, with the extent of each Constellation precisely defined.”
