Talk 1: A Rambling Tour of Classical Star Charts – A Journey Through Western Constellation Myths

This talk explores the history of the Western constellation system, illustrated with rare copperplate prints from our museum’s collection. Starting with the Hevelius Star Atlas (published over half a century after the Bayer Star Atlas), we’ll examine how a 17th‑century Polish astronomer carried forward a 1,500‑year tradition of constellation lore. We’ll discuss what was abandoned, misinterpreted, and romanticised—a free‑flowing exploration of classical Western constellation stories.
Talk 2: The Astronomical Codes in Chinese Culture

Ancient China developed its own unique astronomical system. Crossing time and space, this talk takes a natural‑history perspective, drawing on Eastern myths, classical poetry imagery, and ancient star lore to decode the astronomical secrets embedded in traditional Chinese culture. We’ll recreate the romantic and mysterious cosmic vision of the ancients.
