Compared to convenient digital cameras, the large-format cameras popular in the 20th century pursued not “speed,” but “ultimate” detail. You will marvel at their unparalleled ability to depict detail;
Originating from the portable camera obscura of the Renaissance era, they used pinhole imaging technology to capture reality directly onto a flat surface.
This workshop will guide beginners through the optical principles of traditional photography and the basic operation of large-format cameras with instant camera backs.

What is a large format camera?
A large format camera is a traditional camera that uses film of 4×5 inches or larger. Its operation differs greatly from common digital cameras and small film cameras. There is no automation technology to assist; the photographer must manually control focusing, metering, shutter cocking, and other actions.
Compared to the convenience of digital cameras, large format cameras do not pursue “speed,” but rather “extreme.” They represent a pure, profound, and irreplaceable photographic philosophy. You will be amazed by their unparalleled ability to depict detail.
