Professor Liu Dun, Academician of the International Academy of the History of Science, former President the International Union of History and Philosophy of Science and Technology, and former President of the Chinese Society for the History of Science and Technology, along with Professor Yang Jian from Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, visited the Ptolemy Museum's Kwai Fong Exhibition Hall on November 28th to view the special exhibition \"Light-Chasers: The Vision of Western Classical Telescopes.\" They were received by Museum Director Han Peng and Honorary Director Professor Fung Kam Wing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The guests toured the museum\u2019s collection of rare artifacts, including classical telescopes, astrolabes, and rare books. Professor Liu Dun, an internationally renowned historian of science, praised the exhibition\u2019s curatorial concept of integrating the history of science and art, and paid particular attention to the \u201cVermeer Studio\u201d section. He offered his professional insights into the cultural significance of visual representation and scientific instruments from the perspective of the intersection of the history of science and art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This visit also adds a new example to the exchange between the academic community in mainland China and the museum community in Hong Kong. In the subsequent symposium, both sides had an in-depth discussion on the unique role of natural science museums in academic research and public education, as well as Hong Kong's status and future potential in the exchange of science and culture between East and West.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
